I,m selling my home by myself without a broker and I need to know about the new carbon monoxide detector law in Massachusetts. Is it like the smoke detector law in that it requires an inspection before the sale?

Yes, exactly. The law in question is Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 148, Section 26F1/2. Sub-section (c) of that statute sates: "Every dwelling, building or structure, occupied in whole or in part for residential purposes, shall, upon sale or transfer of such dwelling, building or structure, be inspected by the head of the fire department for compliance with the requirements of this section."
For more detailed information, and to find out exactly what you will need to pass the inspection, the easiest thing to do is call your local fire department for the specifics of setting up the inspection and obtaining certificates of compliance. Good luck.
