Our condo association is made up of 32 units. Admittedly only 5 people attend the meetings regularly and those are the people on the board. Recently the repair of all unit front porches came up. We recently hired a contractor to update the siding on all units. This person is 'friendly' with the treasurer.
We accepted bids to do the decks. One quoated $33K while the other quoted $48k (no brainer). The Treasurer spoke to the higher bid, her friend and he came down to $38k which she approved without consulting the rest of the board at a meeting or the unit owners. When asked about it she said she felt bad!
Since the contractor is already doing the siding, his people have already started on the decks as well. I don't want to foot the bill for the extra money and now we are being told it will be an extra $300 per deck because there is more work needed then originally thought to bring all decks to code.
Can the Treasurer be held personally responsible for making this decision without the others?
