I am supposed to move out of my apartment because of an eviction. The ladlord says he is sending the sheriff in a few days but I have nowher to move to yet! What should I do?

Try going back to the court where your eviction proceeding was held and file a request for a stay of execution.  If it has been more than ten days since the court made its decision about the eviction, you will have to request a temporary restraining order instead.  In either case, you should give a copy of the request to the landlord or her attorney.  Often, the housing specialists (if the eviction took place at the housing court) can help with the forms.

There is certainly no guarantee that the judge will grant your request, but if you can show that you have been diligently searching for a new place to live (bring classified ads you have called and information about units you have applied for), the judge may give you some more time.  Good luck, and please tell your friends about The Forum

As a Landlord myself - How many laws does the Government have to pass to help protect these non-paying trouble making tenants? The system is a failure - allowing these tenants to take advantage of the system putting tax paying landlords to suffer.
