My bankruptcy case is already closed and I had an attorney for the original case. Now I've figured out that I forgot to get a fairly large judgment lien removed during the original bankruptcy. So my question is whether I can reopen my case without a lawyer to get that done?

Reopening bankruptcy case

It certainly is possible to reopen a bankruptcy case.  It usually happens when debtors fail to file important paperwork such as pre-discharge counseling certification or when they forgot in the original filing to name creditors or include property in the estate.  If I were you, I would ask the bankruptcy lawyer who handled your original case to take steps to reopen the bankruptcy.  However, if you insist on doing it yourself, you will need to file an Ex Parte Motion to reopen. Ex-parte, simply means that you are asking the court to reopen the matte without prior notice to your creditors and without scheduling a hearing. The form for the motion is available online, often for a fee.

Once the Motion to Reopen is granted, you will file a motion asking the judge to allow the removal of the lien. The process is fairly straightforward, but you need to make sure you do the paperwork correctly.  Good luck.
