I understand that my chapter 7 bankruptcy is supposed to stay on my credit report for 10 years (I got a discharge 4 years ago), or that was what I was told. But I've read on the Internet where people claim that they have got the bankruptcy petition removed from the report. Is that possible in a legal kind of way? Thanks.

Yes, I have read a few of those claims, too. However, I do not know of any legal (non-fraudulent) method of removing a bankruptcy filing from your credit report. People do try different schemes, but I would not go there if I were you. Sorry.

I would like to add: If your bankruptcy was 4 years ago and you have been responsible with your credit since the time of your bankruptcy you should not have a problem obtaining new credit that is reasonable for your income. Most individuals can expect to get a new home mortgage in 2 – 3 years after the discharge of your debts. Good luck. Attorney Robert Kovacs
