Can I file for an annulment? Or is there a better way to handle my assault situation?

I was married for 2 years to my husband. He assaulted me and I later found out thru his criminal record that was released to me via witness advocate that he was on probation when we got married for assaulting another woman. What are my options? I want a divorce as quickly and as painless as possible. I am devastated at his behavior.

Annulment or divorce in MA

Sorry about your situation.  You can follow this link for information about annulment in Massachusetts.  However, in most cases, it is easier to file for divorce.  For now, you should focus on obtaining a restraining order against your husband to make sure he does not attack you again.  Good luck.

Annulment

I am sorry that you find yourself in this situation. Unfortunately, the fact that your husband did not inform you that he had a criminal record and was on probation for assaulting another woman does not provide grounds for an annulment. As your marriage is considered a short term one, getting divorced should not be difficult assuming your children are not his. You should consult with an attorney who handles divorce cases and has experience with domestic violence situations. Please see my web site at berid-schutzbank.com for more information or to set up a consultation appointment with me. Thank you and good luck.
