Can I change date on durable power of attorney

My father had a Lawyer draw up a "Durable Power of Attorney" Document back in 2007. However my father never signed the document. The year is printed on the Document 'On this _____ day of ______, 2007' etc etc. My question is does he have to make an entirely new document, can it be signed in front of Notary public now or can the date be changed when signing now?

Editor's Response

Yes, you can still use it.  He can change the date and initial the change.  However, last year the legislature adopted some sweeping changes to our probate code that, I believe, justify the creation of a new power of attorney.  Follow this link for an example of the changes dealing with a power of attorney.
