can an employer force you to attend an out of state meeting..

I am a salaried employee...My employer is forcing us to attend an out of state meeting overnight...They say I will be fired if not attended...I am a single parent and have no means of care for my 2 kids overnight.....They say they dont care and I will be fired if I do not attend...It would be held in the state of CT...A 4 hour drive...Can they actually fire me?

Required overnight travel

Unless you are a contract employee and you can find some provision in the contract (or, perhaps, in your employee handbook) that prohibits such trips, your employer is free to send you on overnight trips in furtherance of your training or the performance of your job.  Yes, you could be fired if you do not make the trip.  Sorry.
