can dcf open a case on us because of my mother in law's past history, even though she doesn't live with us?
My daughter is a month old now, i was on a program (that i have been on for over a year now) for my past drug abuse. i have been clean and sober for over a year. but since i am on this program, as a formality, DCF is called by the hospital's social worker. they were supposed to come to my house, see that i have everything that the baby needs and then some, and that she's well cared for. well i got a call this morning from the worker saying that they were opening a case because my husband's mother has a long history with DCF. well we don't bring the baby to her house (or anywhere for that matter, she's only a month old) she does come over to our house to see the baby, but her history with DCF wasn't because she was abusive, it was because she had custody of her grandchildren (my husband's brother's kids) and they went to school smelling like cat urine and smoke, so they took them because of neglect. Is this in any way shape or form, a JUST cause to open a case against us? i mean i don't understand why HER mistakes have ANYTHING to do with us?? I am just trying to find out if they are even allowed to open a case based on this? and if not, what should i do about fixing this problem and getting these people out of my life, i don't deserve it, and feel i am being wrongfully harassed by these people.
