Hello, I live in an apartment where the monthly rent includes a covered parking spot (this is stated on the lease). I've just been informed by my leasing company that they're going to be doing construction on the exterior of my building, meaning that I'm
going to lose my covered parking spot for at least 6 months. They're offering me on-street parking in Brookline, which would require me to apply monthly for a parking permit from the Town of Brookline (an inconvenience for sure). My lease is also over soon and they've just sent me a renewal offer that says my apartment has a covered parking spot - but again, the monthly rent supposedly includes a covered parking spot.
In a situation like this, is it within my rights to ask for a reduction in rent for the remainder of my current lease, and is the landlord obligated to do this? The going rate for covered parking spots in Brookline is at least $175/month and it seems to me that I shouldn't be paying for something that I'm actually not receiving. It also seems to make sense to me that next year's rent shouldn't be as high.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
