I signed a 9 months lease with an Apartment in Springfield, MA and the lease term is from July/31/2010 through Oct/12/2010. I lost my job and need to relocate, thus want to break a lease. I have posted to give up my security deposit to the person taking over the lease and until now, 3 candidates went and sent in application to the management office and they were all denied by the office manager. First two people did not match up to the income restriction and the other did not have a clean background check.
When I applied for a lease though, my income did not meet the requirement either. I think what I did was enough to bring the least damage to the management company and the landlord. The management is demanding me to pay the rest of the rent (over $4000) if I want to break the lease. Am I liable for this in a situation like this?
