My current employer recently increased my yearly salary and granted me a bonus. The bonus is to be paid out in 5 installments.

However, I recently accepted a new job offer and will be leaving my current company after only 2 installments will have been paid (i.e. I start a new job Nov 1 and my last paycheck at my current job will be Oct 31st).

My question is: is my employer obligated to pay me the remaining 3 installments?

Additionally, do they have the right to NOT pay me any additional bonus installments?

Unfortunately, my company is small and loose and did not provide a formal contract regarding my pay increase and bonus. They did, however, confirm both in an email.

Final note: my company is based in New York but all employees live/work in other states (if that has any impact on the related laws).
