I named my sister as my executor in my will. Now she's getting older and I'm worried about the choice. She is fine now but as we get older she might not be as sharp. I don't want to upset her or offend her by naming someone else and also I can't think of anyone else that I trust as much. Can I name an attorney in the will to work with her and help her? Thank you for your assistance.

Editor's Response
Absolutely. It is a very common practice to name an attorney as a co-executor. Even in situations where there is no question about the ability of the executor/family member to perform her duties, people often name attorneys because the probate process can be tricky and time consuming. On a related note, I know it can be hard to talk to family members about these issues, but allow me to give you a little pep talk: This is about you and your wishes and your sister needs to understand that. Hopefully, she will assure you that you need to do what makes you comfortable, but if not, you still need to move forward. Good luck.
