Editor's Response
Last I checked, about 60% of initial applications are rejected. At that point, the applicant has 60 days to file for what is called 'reconsideration.' If the reconsideration does not work out for the applicant, she then has another 60 days to appeal by asking for a hearing in front of an administrative judge. (The SSA adds five days to these number for the time it estimates it will take your appeal to arrive in the mail, but I would not cut it that close.) Good luck, and please tell your friends about The Forum.
