there was a fire in my apartment. we have been displaced since the 20th of july & have spent over $1000 dollars on hotels & food. my landlord did not have homeowners insurance. i know that this type of insurance only covers the structure. she is asking me to pay for the damages to the apartment & is angry that i am not fixing it myself since i started the fire by accident. what are my rights as a tenant?

Generally speaking, your landlord is not responsible for the cost of the hotel or temporary housing, unless his negligence somehow resulted in the damage to the unit. In this case, it sounds like you caused the problem. In that case, the landlord can sue you for the damages you caused. He can also try to negotiate with you to collect the damages and avoid the cost (for both of you) of litigation.
