I rented a room in my house to a man, no lease, all was fine until he was arrested, and is now in prison. He refuses to communicate with me about his property left at the house, and in the room. What can I do with it? I can't find a Massachusetts law dealing with abandoned personal property of a tenant.

You know your tenant has 'moved out', so I would play it safe and follow the procedure set out in MA General Laws Chapter 239, Sections 3 and 4.  Good luck, and please tell your friends about The Forum.
